Aachen

Christmas markets are a great way to introduce your pupils to German life and traditional festivals. Aachen’s bustling food and craft stalls are close to the beautiful Cathedral and Town Hall, and there’s a wonderful evening atmosphere. The ancient streets are cobbled and full of character and this compact city is so easy to explore at any time of year.

ACCOMMODATION

This centre is out of town in a pleasant residential area, situated in its own grounds. Modern airy buildings, good meeting rooms and an international atmosphere will enhance your holiday. Bedrooms, some en-suite, sleep four students and this hostel is always popular with school parties.

You can walk into town from this pleasant hotel, and enjoy exploring Aachen in the evenings. It has an attractive position next to the imposing ancient tower with easy bus parking and access. Pupils sleep two per room and there’s a pleasant restaurant and bar. It’s a great all-year-round hotel, and popular for christmas Market visits. Book early!

TYPICAL ITINERARY

Day One

Coach travel to Kent for ferry or shuttle crossing, then onward travel to Aachen. Evening check-in, meal and time to relax.

Day Two

Shopping at the Christmas markets. Afternoon tour of the lovely old town with its many fountains and traditional bakeries. Evening bowling.

Day Three

Visit to the Cathedral and Christmas crib. Half-day excursion to Cologne to visit the Chocolate Museum and city centre shops and have a meal in a traditional German restaurant.

Day Four

Visit to Phantasialand theme park, full of atmosphere and fun for everyone.

Day Five

Leave after breakfast with packed lunch, onward journey to School.
